Origin of a mystical river

North of Passail, at the foot of the Osser and in the middle of the nature park Almenland, the Raab has its source. This mystical river flows 250 km through Eastern Styria and Hungary until it flows into the Danube at Györ. A few kilometers after Passail, the Raab forms Austria's longest gorge, which is a popular destination for hikers.

The Raabursprung, a small fenced-in area with a spring and a plaque, can be easily reached from Passail. The road leads to the "Waldmühle" snack station, from where the Raabursprung circular trail starts, which leads up to the source in approx. 1 hour. Or you can hike from the "Schwoabauer-Kreuz" on the Sommeralm down to the Raabursprung.
