Frequently asked questions about family vacations

Which hiking trails are particularly suitable for families with children?

There are some excellent hiking trails for families with children in the Almenland Nature Park. Themed trails are also ideal for an excursion with the whole family. All of the hiking trails mentioned are no more than five kilometers long and have little to no elevation gain.

  • The Raabursprung circuit leads, as the name suggests, to the foot of the Osser, where the Raab has its source. In one hour, you can cover three kilometers and 205 meters of altitude on this circular route, and the Waldmühle snack station is ideal for a stop along the way.

  • The adventure trail in the Musi-Dorf Gasen provides lots of interesting facts about flood protection according to the motto "source of life & natural danger". The approximately three kilometers and 164 vertical meters can be walked in about an hour, but there are many stations such as the first water cinema in Austria, which can be discovered in detail and longer.

  • In Koglhof, you can learn all about forests and nature on the three-kilometre-long forest nature trail. You can find out how nature can affect people's health on the numerous information boards along the one-hour trail at a total altitude of 105 meters.

  • The family-friendly forest and bee trail starts right in the center of Passail, from where it goes up to the Lindenberg. You can also stop off at the Almenland farm Kreiner for a guided tour or honey tasting. You should allow one and a half hours for the four-kilometre loop with 150 meters of elevation gain.

  • You can learn about the history of silver mining on the mining nature trail in Arzberg. Display boards provide an insight into more than 750 years of mining history. There is also a guided tour of the show mine. At five kilometers, the nature trail is a little longer, but with an elevation gain of 170 meters, the circular route takes around one and a half hours and is also suitable for younger hikers.

  • In St. Kathrein am Offenegg, the rowan tree takes center stage. The mountain ash, also known as the rowan tree, is the Almenland. It can be used to make many different delicious products. On the almost five kilometer long rowanberry panorama trail many adventure stations await young hikers. In around one and a half hours and 175 meters in altitude, you can learn a lot about the rowan berry, and the trail can also be combined with the Sulamith Garden or the Graf distillery.

  • The famous bog nature trail on the Teichalm leads through one of the last mountain pine raised bogs in Austria. The trail crosses the moor on flat wooden planks, making it barrier-free! Along the two-kilometre trail, you can learn all about the formation, flora and fauna of the moor. You should allow 45 minutes to explore all the colorful information boards.

  • Erich Haider-Harrer is known for his wood carving skills on the Nechnitz. On the approximately three kilometer long wooden sculpture trail over 45 different carved wooden figures are waiting to be discovered. With an elevation gain of 279 meters, the one-and-a-half hour hike is one of the more difficult themed trails for families with children.

Which accommodation establishments are suitable for families with children?

Especially the Farm Holidays-farms are particularly popular with families with children, as the hosts offer a wide range of activities for children. Whether riding ponies, helping with the haymaking, grooming and feeding the animals or simply romping and playing in the green meadows - there is so much to discover on the farms in the Almenland!
