Ice skating & ice climbing

If there is sufficient ice cover, the ice rinks will be opened to all ice sports enthusiasts. Under "Current winter sports information" you will find all information about the condition and opening times of the rinks during the winter season.

If you are looking for a challenge on the rocks in winter, ice climbing is just the thing for you. A hot tip for exciting ice climbing for beginners and advanced climbers is the Tiefenbachgraben in Breitenau am Hochlantsch. A 25-minute ascent leads to the 23 m high "Alice" icefall (difficulty around WI 4). A wooden scaffolding has been erected under the waterfall to support the ice, so it cannot collapse. As the water can be diverted, the icefall can also withstand periods of heat.

There is another 18 m high ice pillar for learning the basic techniques, and there are also several bouldering options.
