The nature park Almenland is located approx. 50 km north of Graz and approx. 180 km southwest of Vienna. Access from Vienna via the Semmering (S6) or via the Wechsel (A2), from Linz and Salzburg via the Phyrnautobahn (A9) and from Klagenfurt via the Pack (A2). The nearest train stations are Weiz, Frohnleiten, Mixnitz and Bruck/Mur. The nearest airports are Graz and Vienna.

How do I travel to the Almenland by public transport?

Whether you are coming from Graz or Vienna, the Almenland Nature Park can also be reached by public transport.

  • First take the train to Frohnleiten station or to Bruck an der Mur or Mixnitz station

Then we continue by bus:

  • Bus route 216 runs from Frohnleiten to Fladnitz an der Teichalm and Passail
  • Bus route 167 runs from Bruck an der Mur via Mixnitz to Breitenau am Hochlantsch
  • Bus route 205 runs from Weiz via St. Kathrein am Offenegg to Heilbrunn
  • During the summer vacations, the buses even go further up to the mountain pasture at weekends and on public holidays!

As some accommodation or excursion destinations are not fully accessible by bus, we recommend the SAM shared cab as a supplement to public transport for the last few meters to your destination. What is the Almenland and when does it run?

The excursion bus in the Almenland Nature Park is an additional public transport service. During the summer vacations, bus routes no. 205, no. 216 and no. 167 run to the Teichalm and Sommeralm at weekends and on public holidays.

How does the SAM shared cab work and how can I book it?

The SAM shared cab is a micro public transport system and supplements the existing public transport services in the Almenland Nature Park. Seven days a week from 06:00 to 20:00, you can book rides with regional cab providers at reduced prices according to a tariff model.

Cab rides can be booked in advance or spontaneously, with a maximum waiting time of one hour for spontaneous bookings.

Where can I park my car - and is there free parking?

Yes, there are free parking spaces on the Teichalm, right by the Teichalmsee. This is also the starting point for many hikes.

There are paid parking spaces in Mixnitz, which are the starting point for the popular Bärenschützklamm gorge hike. The relevant information about the paid parking lots can be found here.
