Church in Breitenau am Hochlantsch

The pilgrimage church, which gives the district of St. Erhard its name, stands on Romanesque foundations. The church that stands today was built around the year 1200. The church has beautiful, luminous Gothic windows, although the interior was baroqueized. The stained glass windows of St. Erhard are among the most important monuments of medieval painting in the Alpine region.

The wandering bishop Erhard from Regensburg, who was canonized in 1052, is the patron saint of the pilgrimage church. His statue stands by the main altar. Saint Leonhard is also venerated in the church, to whom the south chapel with the Leopold altar is dedicated.

The pilgrimage church has also been a parish church since 1826.
