Hiking with a view and a stop for refreshments

"Hiking is the starter, nature is the main course, and eating in the open air is the sweet crowning glory of a truly enjoyable adventure."

The culinary component should by no means be neglected. The saying "Food and drink keep body and soul together" hits the nail on the head. For this reason, there are numerous huts and inns along our hiking trails that invite you to take a leisurely break. Taking a seat on a sunny terrace, enjoying a hearty "Brettljause" or a tempting "Polsterzipfel" filled with jam and letting your gaze wander over the landscape is simply part of the experience. The distant ringing of cowbells and the cheerful laughter of relaxed guests accompany these pleasurable moments like a harmonious melody!

Here you will find our alpine huts:

Of course, a refreshment stop doesn't always have to be right on the hiking trail. Before or after your hike, you can enjoy a delicious lunch or perhaps just coffee and cake at our inns, restaurants and cafés at Almenland - whether you're ravenous or just need a little refreshment!

Majestic, powerful and at home in the Almenland nature park

The Capricorn

Although ibexes were thought to be extinct around 1800, there are now around 800 of them left in the whole of Styria. In the Almenland Nature Park, the majestic ibex have once again found their very own place in the impressive mountain landscape. These fascinating animals, characterized by their imposing horns and graceful appearance, are the true rulers of the Alps.

It is therefore not difficult to come across these animals, which are mainly found in the Almenland Nature Park between the Hochlantsch and the Red Wall live here. As a rule, they meet curious hikers with stoic composure. Nevertheless, please keep your distance and do not frighten the animals! ...and dogs are far too similar to the natural enemy"wolf" and are therefore not at all liked by ibexes. Therefore, please avoid hiking with dogs between Mixnitz, Bärenschützklamm, Hochlantsch and Roter Wand to avoid unpleasant encounters!

Hunting meets hiking tourism

During a leisurely hike on the Heulantsch circuit, Chiara Raith was able to find out more about the work of Peter, the supervising hunter. You can find out how the animals' alpine life can be reconciled with tourism in the blog post.
