Teichalmsee

Starting point for many hikes

The Teichalmsee lies at 1,200 m above sea level, covers an area of 5 hectares and is a wonderful excursion destination in both summer and winter. In summer, you can hike around this mountain lake or explore it by pedalo. In winter, the Teichalm lifts are right next to the lake, where you can go skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and sliding. All three cross-country ski trails also start right by the lake or in the immediate vicinity. Whether winter or summer, a horse-drawn sleigh (carriage) ride that starts right by the lake at the Almgasthof Hotel Teichwirt is always fun for the whole family.

The Latschenhütte and the Almgasthof Hotel Teichwirt are located directly on the lake. In the immediate vicinity you can stop off at the Almwellness Hotel Pierer, the Almgasthof Angerwirt or the"Jausnerei" in the AlmErlebnispark

The name says it all: pond - alpine pasture - lake? Lakes are natural bodies of still water, while ponds are created by humans. The local chronicles tell us that there was already a small lake here around 200 years ago, the legend tells of wicked farmers, which is why the mountain spirits made the alp disappear under water. At some point, however, the lake silted up. At the beginning of the 1970s, the pond was rebuilt by damming up the Mixnitzbach stream - as a flood retention basin for the Bärenschützklamm gorge. The "lake", which is actually a pond, is only a maximum of four meters deep and borders directly on the Teichalm high moor. To prevent it from silting up again, it has to be drained every four years so that the "material" brought in by the Mixnitzbach stream can be removed. The lake is not a bathing lake due to its altitude and the resulting fresh water temperatures.

The Teichalmsee is the ideal starting point for extended hikes of varying difficulty and length.

The show hydroelectric power station in the"Energy Park" and the AlmErlebnispark are also popular attractions.
