Maximilian Church Pernegg

The fortified church in Kirchdorf

First mentioned in a document in 1130, the church in the Kirchdorf district of Pernegg is over 300 years older than the pilgrimage church Frauenkirche in Pernegg opposite.

A large staircase leads to the late Gothic complex with the originally Romanesque nave with buttresses and a mighty Gothic defense tower. The church was surrounded by the first parish cemetery until 1843, as evidenced by numerous gravestones on the outer wall. The Gothic interior has a one-bay choir with a ribbed vault. The high altar, 2 side altars, the pulpit and an organ from 1780 can be found in the late Baroque part of the interior.

The neo-Gothic side altar dates from the 20th century (a donation from 1920). The folk altar, ambo, sedilia, radluster and floor light bands in the apse were created by the artist Richard Kriesche.
