Raab Valley cycle path R11
Along the Raab to Hungary
Route length: 113 km
Ascent: 252 m
Descent: 925 m
Difficulty: easy
Route: Passail - Weiz - Feldbach - Szentgotthard, 2 - 3 days
Directions
A good 110 kilometers of family fun between the source of the Raab in Almenland to Szentgotthard in Hungary. The family cycle path takes us through small romantic towns such as Weiz or Feldbach, past apple orchards and vineyards, pumpkin and corn fields and into the Thermenland. The Raabtalweg (marked R11) has only one challenging ascent. And that's right at the beginning, after that it's all downhill.
The cycle path starts at the Raabursprung, above Passail in the nature park Almenland. For the first few kilometers, the path leads directly along the river until the Raab flows into the "Great Raab Gorge" disappears. For cyclists, this means they have to ride over the mountain to Weiz. From Arzberg, the route climbs the Gösser and then descends via Haselbach to the district town. After this somewhat strenuous stage, the route leads through the flat Raabtal valley to Hungary.
Tip:
This trail is particularly beautiful in spring and fall, when the rather tall corn fields are not yet fully grown or have already been harvested. The view is much better then!
