Kesselfall Gorge
Spectacular wooden ladders & romantic waterfall
A varied hiking trail from the bottom of the Kesselfall valley to the foot of the west side of the Schöckl and back via Glett to the Sandwirt inn.
The Kesselfallklamm gorge is one of the most popular hiking routes in the Graz region. This hike is particularly popular with families with children due to its proximity to the water. The wild and romantic path and the accessible waterfall lead over stairs and bridges. An idyllic hiking trail for families and hikers looking for interesting and exhilarating nature experiences. A detour to the stone gate is also worthwhile on the way back.
Directions:
From GH Sandwirt, walk back approx. 200 m to the start of the mountain road, which then leads uphill past 4 farmsteads to a pasture. From here you can follow the winding road to Semriach on the opposite hillside. The view soon opens up towards western Styria as far as the Koralpe and the surrounding Semriach mountains to the north. After the cattle pasture, you walk through a section of forest and then reach the municipal road. From here you can take the shorter route R6 via the Glettbachgraben to Glett, past three farmsteads and from the Ploder farm (Gletthöhe 8) the descent through the beech forest into the Glettgraben to the GH Sandwirt. Hiking trail R6a is also highly recommended, as it leads right to Schöcklstraße after reaching the municipal road. From the Schöcklstraße you only have 500 m to the GH Theißlwirt, where you can recover from the exertions of the ascent with good Styrian food. From here you walk back along the Schöcklstraße to the Glett junction. Now you hike downhill to the Gletthöhe. This is where hiking trails R6 and R6a join, which in turn lead to GH Sandwirt.
Opening hours:
The Kesselfallklamm gorge is accessible all year round, but there is no path supervision from December to the end of February. Walking is therefore at your own risk! The trail network is maintained by the Austrian Alpine Club, Semriach local group.
