Forest path to the mill
Off to the Schreinhofer Mühle!
A leisurely circular trail from the village center to the Schreinhofer mill. The trail is suitable for the whole family - even with a dog, as you won't come across grazing cattle.
The trail leads from the center of Gasen to the Schreinhofer mill with the largest, still intact mill wheel in Austria. For groups and by prior arrangement, the Mühlenschenke also serves drinks and makes the original Brennsterz.
The path leads past the "Troadkostn", where the life-size, carved nativity figures can be admired during Advent, and past the parish church, which has two patron saints: St. Oswald is a much revered cattle patron and points to the agricultural use of the area, while St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners, refers to mining in earlier days. Until the 19th century, iron ore, gold, silver and arsenic were mined around Gasen.
Along the way, beautiful views and one or two resting benches await hikers, with fresh mountain air, birdsong and soft forest floors for good measure.
Back in the village, the Gasen inns invite you to a cozy stop!
