Craftsmanship & traditional customs
Almost every village in the Almenland nature park has its own Christmas market: there are some that have a long-standing tradition and others that have only emerged in recent years. The "big" markets are complemented by smaller events, such as the Alpaca Advent, the Herbal Farmers' Advent or the Biscuit Market.
Each of the Christmas markets has its own special features. The Advent market in front of the Huab'n on the Brandlucken is organized by the "Huab'n Theater", which also puts on a Christmas play several times a year. "A Christmas market as it used to be" is the Christmas market on the Teichalm. Traditional handicrafts take center stage, while brass bands, fire baskets and the scent of fir trees create the perfect atmosphere.
The "Advent'ln" in St. Kathrein am Offenegg has only been around for a few years. The Advent trail, illuminated by hundreds of candles, runs through the entire village, with choirs and music groups providing the framework for the event. However, the Kathrein Advent is best known for the unique, larger-than-life chocolate nativity scene by TV confectioner Eveline Wild. The "Moarhofhechtls Advent Market", which takes place at the Schrenk family farm, is also unique and can be easily combined with the nativity scene exhibition at the Birglhof.
