The gentle mountain winter offer

Snowshoeing is a new trend sport that offers an intensive experience of nature away from the slopes and cross-country ski trails, without the need for athletic ability (e.g. skiing).

With modern snowshoes that prevent you from sinking into deep snow, you are not tied to any specific routes. You can also hire snowshoes for your first attempts, for beginners we recommend a guided tour where you will learn everything you need to know about snowshoe hiking.

Snowshoe hire:

The snowshoes are simply strapped to the hiking boots, so it is not necessary to specify the shoe size when making a reservation.

There are also guided snowshoe tours with the"Abenteuer Management" team or the Freinatur Steiermark team.

Snowshoe experience in the nature park Almenland

I recently had the opportunity to explore the beautiful snow-covered winter landscape in the Almenland nature park on snowshoes. Me and two other friends went to the Tyrnaueralm, one of the 125 mountain pastures in Europe's largest contiguous low mountain pasture area. We were also accompanied by Silvia and Elisabeth from WEGES - the full-service hiking agency in Styria and already a long-standing partner of the Eastern Styria Adventure Region.

Winter hiking in the nature park

The frosty season also has a lot to offer walkers and hikers. Winter hiking is the most leisurely way to enjoy an intense experience of nature on well-prepared winter hiking trails without having to exert yourself.

The specially prepared trails with good signposting, away from the cross-country ski trails and pistes, make it possible to enjoy winter nature in all its beauty.

Teichalm:
Winter hiking trails are prepared around the Teichalmsee lake when the snow conditions are right - for a safe and leisurely walk in the clear winter air!

St. Kathrein am Offenegg:
A wonderful winter hike above St. Kathrein, which mainly leads along municipal roads and is therefore easy to walk even when there is more snow.
