At some point, usually at the end of March, spring arrives in the Almenland! All it takes is a few warmer days and the last remnants of snow on the mountain pasture disappear as if by magic. And then suddenly the alpine pasture is white again. The sun has lured thousands and thousands of white and sometimes purple crocuses out of the damp alpine pastures: crocus meadows as far as the eye can see, making a hike across the alpine pastures a very special experience!
Spring is already a little further advanced in the valleys, where the orchard trees are already blooming on intensely yellow dandelion meadows. The dandelion blossom is so dominant here that beekeepers even offer a pure dandelion honey. The Dandelion Festival, which is celebrated throughout the Almenland at the beginning of May, is a tribute to this versatile plant. During this time, spring-fresh cuisine, which of course includes dandelions, is combined with a colorful array of events.
From the end of May, the alpine pastures also come alive when the cattle are herded up again. A highlight in the course of the year is the "let out the horses" on the summer pasture at the beginning of June, when the colorful group of summer visitors' horses decide on their ranking for the summer together on the pasture. In any case, our alpine cattle are allowed to do what they all want: stay the whole summer!
See you in spring.
