To the Raab Spring via "Pozilo"
North of Passail, at the foot of the Osser and in the heart of the Almenland Nature Park, the Raab River has its source. This legendary river flows 250 km through Eastern Styria and Hungary until it joins the Danube near Győr. A few kilometers past Passail, the Raab forms Austria’s longest gorge, which is also a popular destination for hikers (Raabklamm Loop Trail).
The trail follows a wide curve to the source of the Raab and back down to the Waldmühle rest stop, located at the head of the valley north of Passail. This family-friendly hiking trail passes several steeply situated mountain farms, and along the way, the story of “Pozilo,” the stag, and the little droplet “Sprungingerl” is told.
If you’d like to extend the hike a bit, you can hike steeply uphill from the source of the Raab to the “Schwoabauer-Kreuz” on the Sommeralm (Trail No. 754, about 1/2 hour, 200 meters of elevation gain).
