Two churches and many special views
This trail connects the two churches in the municipality of Pernegg: the Frauenkirche, a well-known pilgrimage church, and the parish church of St. Maximilian.
The municipality of Pernegg is located directly on the Mur River, 10 km south of Bruck an der Mur and 40 km north of Graz. Pernegg is part of the R2 Mur Cycle Route and the Drachentour mountain bike trail, making it a mecca for cyclists. Thanks to the Pernegg and Mixnitz train stations on the Südbahn line, the municipality of Pernegg serves as the gateway to Almenland.
This tour through the districts of Kirchdorf and Pernegg connects the two churches that dominate the townscape: The “Frauenkirche” in Pernegg is a well-known pilgrimage church with a Baroque interior, while the parish church on the church hill in Kirchdorf is dedicated to St. Maximilian and is a late-Gothic structure with a defensive tower. Also along the route is Verbund’s demonstration turbine, which can be easily viewed from the outside thanks to its glass enclosure.
