The theater group was founded in 2000 and began staging open-air performances in front of the Huab'n on the Brandlucken that same year. The group consists entirely of amateur actors between the ages of 5 and 75, all of whom perform and work on a volunteer basis and come from the immediate vicinity. The troupe primarily performs classic comedies by Austrian playwrights, ranging from Nestroy to Raimund to Rosegger. The high attendance is due not only to the high-quality performances but also to the wonderful atmosphere at the open-air theater. The covered grandstand offers over 600 seats, ensuring that guests stay dry even on rainy evenings.

Performance in 2026

"Pension Schöller" by Wilhelm Jacoby and Carl Laufs is a comedy of the highest order. And it has been ever since its premiere over 130 years ago. With seven film adaptations to date and an uninterrupted run in German-speaking theaters, the legendary "Schöller" has always been—and continues to be—a showcase piece for true comedy veterans.

The plot is as simple as it is ingenious: During a trip, the wealthy uncle makes his financial support for his nephew contingent on the nephew showing him the inside of a mental institution. In desperation, the nephew takes him to the Schöller Boarding House. And lo and behold: The uncle has a wonderful time because he actually believes the boarders gathered there are insane.

But before long, the retired major, the writer with a passion for investigation, the action-loving globetrotter, the eccentric airline captain, and the playful actress with a spectacular speech impediment all begin to seem threatening to him, and he is overjoyed to be back home.

However, the situation escalates when the “madmen” track him down there as well. And the madness reaches its absurd climax in a hysterical series of mix-ups.

This year, the play "Pension Schöller" by Wilhelm Jacoby and Carl Laufs, adapted by Reinfried Schieszler, will be performed on the open-air stage.
