Panoramic Hike High Above Koglhof

Easy | 8.4 km | 2:30 hrs | 220 m elevation gain
Sallegg near Koglhof

A leisurely circular hike with breathtaking views of the Fischbach Alps, the Sommeralm, and the mountain scenery of Upper Styria.

Out and About in Koglhof

The trail begins in the Sallegg district, high above Koglhof, and winds around the Königskogel. The hike offers stunning views.

The trail around the Königskogel is easy to hike and offers beautiful views as well as a few rest areas. There’s no need to climb up to the summit cross, as the peak is hidden in dense forest. Sallegg, a few kilometers above Koglhof, lies directly on the Almenland. The views from this small village, with its lush floral displays, are correspondingly beautiful. To the north, the view extends to Birkfeld, the Fischbacher Alps, and on to the Schneealpe, the Rax, and the Hohe Veitsch. Deep down in the valley lies St. Georgen Church, which was first mentioned as early as the 13th century, making it the oldest parish church in the upper Feistritz Valley. The church was rebuilt in the 18th century and later furnished in the Neo-Baroque style.

Now that the Obi Hansl Hut has closed, Sallegg unfortunately no longer has a restaurant; visitors can stop for a meal in the village of Koglhof or at Brandlucken.
