Our Summer Events

From June through August

Summer in the Almenland Nature Park Almenland a time for celebrating, enjoying life, and spending time together. It kicks off with the traditional “Rossauslassen” (horse release) at the Sommeralm, followed by numerous alpine festivals, church fairs, and music and theater events that bring the region to life. Food lovers will also find plenty to enjoy: From the Sterzfest to the Happerl Essen and the Bergbauern Open Air, unforgettable events, regional delicacies, and authentic Almenland await you amidst an impressive natural landscape.

Brandluckner Huab'n Theater

Since 2000, the Brandlucken theater group has been delighting audiences Brandlucken open-air performances in front of the Huab'n. Volunteer amateur actors from the region bring Austrian theater classics and comedies to the stage. The unique setting and the covered grandstand with over 600 seats make for a special theater experience.

In 2026, audiences can look forward to “Pension Schöller,” a timeless comedy classic full of mix-ups and quirky characters. A wealthy uncle mistakes the guests at a guesthouse for patients at a mental institution—and the hilarious chaos unfolds. Great entertainment guaranteed!

Teichalm Gathering

The Teichalm Festival organized by the Weiz District Rural Youth Association is one of the region’s largest traditional festivals. Young and old celebrate together with a ceremonial program, music, dancing, and regional cuisine. Awards ceremonies, master craftsman certificate presentations, and an atmospheric program of events featuring live music make the festival a highlight of Almenland and a gathering place where living traditions are celebrated.

Happerl Food

The Happerl Essen event at Passail’s main square invites you to enjoy a delightful summer evening filled with regional specialties. Producers from the Almenland Nature Park Almenland creative “Happerl”—ranging from savory to sweet—accompanied by live music, children’s activities, and a cozy atmosphere. From bonfires to regional beverages, the market square becomes a culinary gathering place for food lovers.

Sterzfest

Summer Alpine Pasture

This traditional festival at the HoldaHütt’n on the Sommeralm invites young and old alike to enjoy a delightful day filled with Styrian cuisine. Various types of Sterz and traditional soups are served straight from the cauldron over an open fire. The event also features grilled specialties, music, a lucky draw, and entertainment for the whole family—a convivial celebration steeped in authentic alpine tradition.

Gasner Music Festival

The Gasner Musi-Kirtag combines Styrian cuisine, living traditions, and plenty of music into a special day of celebration in the village. Following the festive Mass with the blessing of herbs, visitors can enjoy a diverse program featuring crafts, traditional performances, and live music on several stages. Highlights, musical groups, and moments of enjoyment make the festival an experience for the whole family.

Summer Alpine Pasture

The traditional “Rossauslassen” event at the Sommeralm marks the start of the alpine pasture season each year in the Almenland Nature Park. When Noriker and Haflinger horses come up to the alpine pasture together for the first time after winter, it creates an impressive natural spectacle. Hundreds of visitors get to witness firsthand how the horses establish their hierarchy—a unique custom steeped in tradition and emotion. The St. Kathrein am Offenegg Fire Department provides food and drinks. Parking is available on site.
