From the Mountain Ash Tree to Mountain Ash Schnapps
The Vogelbeer-Panoramaweg is an adventure hiking trail in St. Kathrein/Offenegg that is entirely dedicated to the rowan tree— Almenland(also known as the bird cherry). Thanks to the Graf Distillery, which produces the multi-award-winning and highly acclaimed rowan brandy, the town has a special connection to this plant.
The trail itself features several interactive stations, ranging from a panoramic sofa to a sound oasis and a forest xylophone. At Schwoaghofer Pond, you can cool off at the “Brunntrog,” and on the Larch Meadow, tired hikers can rest on the one-of-a-kind “Laaangen Bank.” Along the way, well-designed information boards provide interesting facts about the rowanberry. Also waiting to be admired are the oversized horseshoe sculptures by Almart artist Sascha Exenberger. The final stretch of the trail leads along the “Scent Trail” around the church in the town center. But what really makes this trail special is the wonderful view!
The Sulamith Garden and the Graf Distillery are located right along the trail and are well worth a visit.
