Don't you feel like celebrating a truly traditional Easter again? There's hardly a better place for it than the Almenland Nature Park.

Holy Week begins with the blessing of palms in churches, during which the colorful “palm bouquets”—made of catkins, herbs, and colorful ribbons—are blessed. The Easter liturgy continues with the “Mass of the Lord’s Supper” on Holy Thursday, the veneration of the Cross with the Great Intercessory Prayer on Good Friday, and, as the highlight, the grand Resurrection celebration during the Easter Vigil in numerous churches throughout the region.

These days are accompanied by regional customs: Children carrying ratchet instruments parade through town, blessed fire is brought into the homes, and on Easter Vigil, people celebrate joyfully around the Easter bonfires. The days leading up to Easter are also set aside for dyeing Easter eggs and shopping for specialties —from ham to Easter bread—from local farmers. The food and drinks are then enjoyed at the big Easter snack, right after the blessing of the meat on Holy Saturday. And on Easter Sunday, everyone looks forward to the joyful hunt for the hidden Easter baskets!

Hiking in the Almenland Nature Park

While everything is already beginning to bloom down in the valley, the last remnants of snow from last winter are still melting on the alpine pastures, making way for colorful fields of crocuses. The change of seasons also marks the start of the new hiking season. The region around the Teichalm and the Sommeralm is perfect for a wide variety of hiking tours during your vacation—always with a view stretching far into the countryside. Enjoy the scenery and the fresh alpine air on a leisurely stroll or a hike lasting several hours. Numerous mountain huts invite you to stop for a break.
