In the Footsteps of the Silver Miners
Arzberg, a small, picturesque village in the market town of Passail, looks back on more than 750 years of mining history. Silver mining here did not cease until 1927. Today, the tourist mine—the only one in all of Eastern Styria—brings the hard life of miners in days gone by to life. In addition, the newly redesigned mining nature trail winds around the village, with informational signs detailing mining in Arzberg; along the way, children are told the story of the “Silver Boys of Arzberg.”
A special highlight is the “Window to Almenland, Almenland which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Hochlantsch, the Röthelstein, the Rote Wand, the Tyrnaueralm, and the Osser.
The Mining Nature Trail can be easily combined with a visit to the exhibition mine or a delightful tasting at Almenland . Arzberg is also the starting point for hikes into the Raabklamm, Austria’s longest gorge.
