Franz Scheikl Via Ferrata

The Franz Scheikl Via Ferrata is one of the most famous via ferratas in Styria and is considered a true flagship of the Almenland Nature Park. Challenging sections, varied climbing, and fantastic views make it a special experience for experienced via ferrata climbers. The summit of the Hochlantsch then rewards climbers with a breathtaking panorama of the Graz Mountains. The via ferrata is particularly suitable for athletic mountaineers with via ferrata experience, but also for beginners, as there are easier sections to try out.

The indoor climbing gym in Mixnitz is the perfect alternative when the weather is bad and a popular training spot for both beginners and advanced climbers. Modern climbing routes and bouldering areas allow for year-round training—regardless of the weather or season.

For experienced alpine climbers, the Rote Wand Almenland ultimately one of the most impressive rock faces in the Almenland Nature Park. Climbing Tips & Gear

To ensure that your day of climbing is safe and stress-free, you should plan your route carefully. Check the weather, approach route, difficulty level, and current conditions in advance. Conditions can change quickly, especially in alpine terrain.

Depending on the tour, the basic gear includes:

  • Climbing Helmet
  • Climbing harness
  • Climbing Shoes
  • Rope and belay device
  • Quickdraws and Carabiners
  • Chalk Bag
  • Sufficient drinking water and food
  • Weather-resistant clothing
  • First Aid Kit

For via ferrata routes, you’ll also need a certified via ferrata set with a lanyard fall arrester and a helmet. For ice climbing, you’ll also need crampons, ice axes, and the appropriate belay equipment.

Important: Never climb alone, assess your abilities realistically, and respect closures and nature conservation regulations.
