Whether it’s colorful Carnival parades, traditional hay-throwing festivals, lively get-togethers for singers and musicians, or the festive raising of the Maypole—now is the time to celebrate traditions with genuine joy. Spring hikes, regional culinary delights, and numerous outdoor events also beckon visitors. A special highlight is the “Spring Awakening” in May, which showcases spring at its finest with fresh herbs, seasonal delicacies, and a variety of experiences.

Rechberg Race

The Rechberg Hill Climb is one of Austria’s biggest motorsports highlights and draws huge crowds every year. As a round of the FIA European Hill Climb Championship, top international drivers gather at Rechberg to deliver spectacular motorsports action at the highest level. State-of-the-art technology, live streams, and a fantastic atmosphere along the course make this legendary hill climb an unforgettable experience for fans and visitors alike.

Important Information: Due to the race, Rechbergstraße will be closed this weekend. There are several parking lots and detours. Please make sure to check for information well in advance regarding how to get there and the detour routes.

A Fresh Spring Awakening

When nature in Almenland comes Almenland life, spring arrives in all its glory. The “Spring Awakening” event focuses on regional herbs, seasonal delicacies, and the first signs of spring. The program is rounded out by hikes, workshops, tastings, and relaxing nature experiences—the perfect opportunity to experience spring with all your senses.

24-Hour & 12-Hour Hike

St. Jakob in Breitenau am Hochlantsch

The hiking marathon around the Almenland a real highlight for anyone who loves athletic challenges. Spectacular peaks, impressive panoramic views, and varied trails make the tour an unforgettable experience in nature.

In 24 hours, participants will hike approximately 58 kilometers, and in 12 hours, approximately 22 kilometers—without sleeping. Rest stops provide the necessary breaks. Registration is required.

Draft Horse Gathering

A highlight of Almenland is the grand draft horse gathering in Breitenau on the Hochlantsch. Numerous horse-drawn teams, traditional carriages, and impressive demonstrations of log hauling and local customs make the event a special experience for the whole family. Music, culinary delights, and an atmospheric program of activities ensure a lively day of celebration dedicated to equestrian culture. At 9 a.m., the horse-drawn teams set off on a festive parade through the village, after which the supporting program begins on the festival grounds near Gasthof Hofbauer. Admission is by voluntary donation, and there’s plenty of food, drink, and entertainment.
