Go on a pilgrimage, enjoy nature, and discover history

The community loop trailleads along the “Hochweg” through the districts of Auen, Krammersdorf, and Hohenau, and returns via Haufenreith. It’s a slightly longer walking trail that passes by the small pilgrimage chapel “Kleinheilbrunn.” The return route offers views ranging from the Schöckl to the Rote Wand and also features a lovely spot to rest at the Passail fish ponds.

The origins of “Kleinheilbrunn” can be traced back to a legend: A farmer erected an image of the Virgin Mary out of gratitude for having survived a serious accident. One day, the image disappeared, only to be found exactly where the chapel stands today. The image was returned, only to disappear again, and was found once more in the same spot. The farmer finally understood the sign and built the first chapel here in 1672; it was completed in its present form in 1824. A small spring flows from the spot where the image of the Virgin Mary was found, and it is said to have healing properties for eye ailments.
