Via Bucheben to the Rote Wand

Since the hike starts right at the Mixnitz train station, getting there by public transportation is a breeze!

The trail winds up through the beech groves to the Roten Wand, whose color is particularly accentuated by the morning sun. With a little luck, we might even see majestic ibexes crossing our path. Once we reach the Tyrnaueralm, the alpine hut of the same name invites us to take a break—though please note that the hut is closed during the winter!

The hike can easily be adjusted; for example, if you’d like a longer hike, you can continue on to the Teichalm (about 4.5 km).

This hike requires sure-footedness, a head for heights, and good physical conditioning. With an elevation gain of about 1,150 meters, it is one of the more challenging hikes in the Almenland Nature Park.

Part of the route passes through alpine pastureland. Please observe the rules of conduct when encountering grazing livestock.
