To the striking rock face with a view of the Almenland
The Rote Wand is a southeast-facing rock face; the red color of the rock comes from inclusions of red limestone and is best admired in the morning sun. This majestic rock face is home to chamois and ibex, which, with a little luck, can be spotted along the trail. In the spring, the now quite rare and protected Petergstamm also blooms here.
The hike up to the gently sloping Tyrnaueralm starts right at the Teichalmsee. The loop trail first leads through the forest up to the Tyrnaueralm Hut. Here, you’re immediately treated to a magnificent view of the Rote Wand and the alpine landscape. The trail continues slightly uphill and finally leads gently along a rocky path with scree to the summit cross on the Rote Wand. The cozy rest area invites you to take a break and enjoy the alpine panorama. The same path then leads back to the Tyrnaueralm hut, where hikers can stop for a bite to eat after the strenuous hike. Afterward, the route continues leisurely along the forest road (the “Zechnermoar Trail”) back to the Teichalm. At Teichalmsee, hikers can cool their feet in the lake or on a pedal boat after the strenuous hike. Several restaurants welcome hikers at the Teichalm.
The trail is suitable for the whole family, but the final stretch—especially toward the summit cross—is more alpine in nature. Sure-footedness and sturdy footwear are absolutely essential here!
