A short but challenging hike to the Drachenhöhle, a designated historic site. You can look forward to impressive views, fascinating legends, a spectacular cave, and—with a little luck—even ibexes on the cliffs of the Röthelstein.

The Legendary Cave

The tour to the Dragon Cave starts at the Mixnitz train station, so it’s very convenient to get there by public transportation. From there, the route continues to the Heubergstüberl, where you can also stop for a break on the way there or back.

From here on, the hike becomes steeper, but even along the trail you’ll be rewarded with stunning views—and, with a little luck, a glimpse of an ibex, which often roams the cliffs of the Röthelstein. The Dragon’s Cave marks the highest point of the hike; from there, the descent begins along the same route until you reach the starting point at the Mixnitz train station.

Tours of the Dragon Cave are also available; you can find all the information and dates here.
