Austria's cave with the most stalactites
Immerse yourself in an underground world teeming with stalagmites and stalactites, and let yourself be enchanted by meter-high, delicate limestone “candles” and sparkling stalagmite columns. Through the 22-meter-wide and 10-meter-high entrance portal of the Katerloch, you’ll enter the impressive entrance hall, where the so-called “Atlas” is located. With a circumference of 46 m and a height of 22 m, it ranks among the most massive sinter columns in the world. Equally impressive is the “Fantasy Hall,” spanning 10,000 m². Here you’ll find a veritable primeval forest of stalactites and stalagmites, featuring thousands of fantastical formations.
The Katerloch is still considered an insider's tip, because after being closed for 20 years, it has only been possible to admire the beauty of this show cave again since 2004.
